Key to Building a Profitable Business

Anybody who claims that there is only one key to establishing a successful business shouldn't be taken critically and so I'm not claiming that this is the only key you will need but I do genuinely believe that it is a fundamental key and that no truly long-term profitable business doesn't have this in place. So what's the key I'm talking about? Values. Keep reading and I'll clarify what I mean.

First, I want to determine what success means to me. Now, obviously, a successful business will be a profitable one but building money is not the only component of success. If you start and run a business that makes good money but it includes you having to do tasks you don't enjoy most of the time then is that really success for you? More essentially if you set up a business that does not reflect your values and means you have to do things that are towards your principles then I don't think any amount of money will ever make you feel like a success, will it?

For this purpose, I believe that if you are starting to build a business one of the first things you should do is figure out what underlying values will form its foundation, what do you want it to stand for, what popularity, if you like, do you want your business to have. I don't intend to give you a list of the values I think you should have but I will talk about just one that I think would be usually accepted as essential.

There are many techniques that you could say this first one but I'm going to use the term "win-win". This principle involves giving good value in return for providing positive results or advantages. It stems from the underlying values of honesty, integrity and generosity. It comes from making truly helping people and making a difference in their lives as a main encouraging force, not just making income for yourself. Please don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with making money. Money is a very essential and valuable tool that enables you to provide for yourself and your loved ones and to do a ton of good in the world. I'm talking against making money for money's sake i.e. to set your heart on the money rather than on the good things that it can be used for.

  2. I agree, a good successful business is built upon you the owner being happy and satisfied as well as your clients. I always say a "good deal" is when both parties involved are EQUALLY benefited by the deal. Thanks for the article!
